Fair Hills Resort Scheduled Activities
Nighttime is Fun Time for Families

The night literally sings with family excitement at Fair Hills. Resort guests are treated to three classic resort traditions during their stay.

The Hootenanny has added a cheerful smile to generations on Tuesday nights for decades. The most popular event of the week, the "Hoot" features traditional songs, skits, gospel favorites, and the famous Pelican Lake song. The Hootenanny exhibits the musical talents of Fair Hills' staff, many of whom are college music majors. The entire staff jokes, dances, and harmonizes through the night and inspires both young and old with an exciting show. (Learn more about tickets for The Hoot even if you aren't staying at Fair Hills.)

How about printing a copy of the "Pelican Lake" song and singing it on your way up North next summer? We've had many requests for the words so here they are! Join us on Tuesday and Friday with a rousing rendition of this Fair Hills tradition!

Imagine a summer evening on a deck overlooking a lake with the whole family creating yummy ice cream sundaes. Next, a "Pelican" arrives to greet the gang. Add to that in the sand nearby, a friendly yet "competitive" game of volleyball where the staff has challenged the guests. Sunday night's Ice Cream Social combines all of those activities to warm the hearts and cool the lips of everyone young and old.MN night in Detroit Lakes

The Talent Show is the featured attraction on Thursday nights. This is the chance for Fair Hills' guests to be stars and perform on stage with the staff. The 4-8 and 8-14 recreation groups start off the show with songs and skits. Then individual talents take the stage. Family skits are seen frequently as well. You'll be entertained by musical and comedy routines... maybe even a man standing on his head while drinking a glass of water.

The Family Friday Night Dance is the culmination of all the fun things that happened during the week. All ages come to test their luck and at skill at the Limbo contest, Hula Hoop contest, and bubble gum blowing contest. Last summer we had 8 month old babies beside 86 year grandparents doing the chicken dance. A hug from a parent buys a chance at winning a fabulous blow up guitar or saxophone; something everyone needs for the trip home! These will be moments to treasure for years to come.

Wide Mouth FrogThe Wide Mouth Frog

For those of you who can remember, and for those that can’t, our good friend Larry Swenson has a CD that is sure to make you smile. Larry worked at Fair Hills from 1971-1986 working with the Hootenanny, recreation programs and in general being a great guy to be around.

The tale of the Wide Mouth Frog has been in the repertoire of Larry Swenson since the early 1970's, and is still popular in the New Millennium! You’ll listen to the great story over and over, told in both English and in "AB!"

Enjoy action songs for kids of all ages from Mexico, Venezuela, Estonia, Japan, Morocco, the U.S.A., Chile, Denmark and Sweden. You’ll find the rhythms of the samba, rumba, mambo, reggae, as well as Polynesian and African beats. Listen to Hip-Hop, Bluegrass, R&B, traditional jazz, Bowery waltz, and fifties rock. Exotic instruments include the didgeridoo, cabasa, the rain stick, and singing drum. And even a few itinerant farm animals have found their way onto the CD! Order your copy today!
