General Information
Each employee will play an essential role at the resort. Regardless of the position you have, you may often be asked to fill in wherever needed. Although we try to give everyone one a full day off a week, sometimes this is not possible. On average, each employee works about 35-45 hours per week (supervisors will work more). The schedules vary because of the nature of the resort business. We serve our guests in some capacity from 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. each day. This requires flexibility among our staff. If you want to work at Fair Hills, be aware that you will work hard and sometimes schedules will change with little to no warning. To maintain our strong family atmosphere, we do not allow any radical physical appearances at our resort, e.g., body and tongue piercings, tattoos that would be seen by small children. You will also have a lot of fun, as you will be working with an energetic staff of over 100 people. You will also meet many interesting people; the resort typically has 150-250 guests per week. Also, you will be providing a wonderful service to many people: Making their vacation and relaxation time very pleasurable and memorable (some of our guests have come to Fair Hills for over 50 years). Best of all you will be at a beautiful resort on a beautiful lake in Minnesota.
ROOM & BOARD: We are required to withhold room & board from your paychecks if you live at the resort. We have room for about 30 staff to live at the resort (this is on a first come, first serve basis). The amount withheld is $8.00 per day.
COMPENSATION and ACTIVITY MONEY: A few employees will be paid a monthly salary; this will be discussed with them individually. The majority of employees, however, will be paid an hourly base salary between $7.50/hour and $8/hour. The amount of your salary will depend upon your job and your relevant experience; returning employees may qualify for a pay increase. If the resort decides to extend an offer to you for summer employment, your contract will specify your rate of pay. Fair Hills Resort pays an hourly wage for activities you will participate in during the summer. These mostly include our entertainment features – The Hootenanny, Marching Band, and Talent shows. Typically it will be $5/ hour. It will include all practices and performances throughout the summer. The money you earn will be added to your last paycheck at the end of the summer.
BONUS: A bonus of .50 cents for every hour worked will be paid in December to all employees who are paid on an hourly basis, provided that they meet certain conditions, e.g., staying through their contract date. The bonus is also predicated upon an employee’s job performance. (The bonus does not apply to short-term employees (less than 6 weeks), Wildflower employees (people working in ground maintenance or the pro shop), or “fall staff”). The bonus is discussed in greater detail in the employee handbook that is mailed to everyone we hire.
