Fishing
Pelican Lake is a great place for those famous Minnesota walleyes! Feel free to take out a row boat, rent a fishing boat or just cast from the dock. Either way, we wish you luck!
Life Jackets - are required by Minnesota law. You do not have to wear them, but they must be available to you in the boat. Life jackets are available in the Bait Shop under the deck. Please return them when you are finished.
Bait – Worms and leeches are in the Bait Shop below the main deck. Bait is self serve. You may also ask a beach person or store personnel to help you. Please put your cabin number and the dollar amount on the green charge slips taped to the refrigerators. The price for bait is posted. The bait will then be charged to your cabin.
Fish – You can find Muskie, Walleye, Northern, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Crappie, Sunfish, Rock Bass and Perch in Pelican Lake. Fish can be cleaned every day. If you would like us to clean them for you, please let someone in the lobby know, it is $1 per fish. You may also clean your own fish. The fish cleaning house is adjacent to the #9 fairway, across the road from the kitchen. Knives and plastic bags are in this house. Fish are frozen in the lobby basement fish freezer. If you clean your own fish, be sure your freezer package is clearly marked. Fish waste is also frozen each day and then composted. Contact your waitron if you would like our kitchen staff to prepare your catch for a meal or appetizer. The kitchen staff can prepare it for the lunch meal only.
Fishing Guides – We have guides available on request. Reservations must be made in advance. The Muskie guide we recommend is Jerry Sondag. His phone number is 218-280-8482. For general fishing, call Brad Laabs at 218-847-1089. We would also be happy to make these calls for you at the front desk.
Resources - Want to see what is being caught in the area or check the fishing conditions? Visit Fishing Pals for information.
Fishing Licenses - Please call 888-646-6367 or check online at www.dnr.state.mn.us to obtain a MN fishing license.
Motors and Boats– Fishing motors are available to rent by the hour, day or week. Check them out in the main lobby. Gas for your boat is located at the gas pump. Beach personnel will be happy to assist you. We have rowboats. Use any rowboat you want for either rowing or the use for your own motor. Check to see if the plug is in the back of the row boat. Check out the rental page for prices and fleet information.
Bringing your own Boat – The launching ramp is near the gas pump next to #12. Please turn your boat and trailer around in the parking lot behind #12 or by coming around by way of the dining room road. Use any unoccupied buoy to moor your boat for the night. Do not tie it to a dock overnight! A boat tied with a good rope to a buoy can ride out any overnight storm, but we have had many swamped and punctured boats that were tied up to a dock overnight. Please store your trailer on the west side of the fish cleaning house on the hill. Boat hoist rental is available.
A new concern is that Pelican Lake is now a host for Zebra Mussels so please use precaution when taking your boat out of the lake so you don’t spread them to other lakes. Your live wells must be drained, and if you don’t hose your boat off, please allow it to dry for 72 hours prior to launching it in another lake.
